INLINE ELECTRO CHLORINATOR.
CONTROLLER AND HMI
Industrial Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with a 5.7" colour touch screen human machine interface (HMI) display.
pH CONTROL
It is recommended that hydrochloric acid dosing system be used for pH adjustment, instead of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. A double junction pH probe is used to measure the actual pH levels on a sample stream from the filtered water return line. pH High Limit and Low limit alarm can be set by the operator. An alarm message will be triggered when the pH values measured by the probe is above or below the high and low limit respectively. In the event of a high limit alarm, chlorine dosing will be stopped until pH lvel drops below that limit. If pH level does not drop below the high limit, and the acid dosing pump has been operating at 100% for 2 hours, a built in protection feature will stop the acid dosing pump automatically.
CHLORINE CONTROL
Chlorine dosing can be controlled using either Free Chlorine (FCL) values or ORP values. Free chlorine level is measured using an Amperometric membrane probe while ORP level is measured using a double junction ORP probe. Chlorine production from the saltwater chlorinator is controlled by changing the current output from the switch mode power supplies to the electrolyser cells. High and low limit alarms are also provided for both the FCL and ORP levels measured.
CHLORINE BACKUP
Under normal operating conditions, the electrolyser cells should produce sufficient levels of chlorine for sanitising. The chlorine backup system provides chlorine dosing via a chlorine dosing pump should the chlorine levels fall below the low-low limit. The low-low limit can be set for both FCL or ORP, and the chlorine backup program will be triggered depending on which configuration it is set at. A delay timer can be set by the operator to delay the start of the backup dosing program. If the configuration for chlorine dosing has been switched to the chlorine dosing pump, the chlorine backup system will be automatically turned OFF. See Chlorine Dosing Configuration section for more details.
POLARITY SWITCHING
Polarity switching is a feature where the polarity of the brass connectors changes from one to the other, or from positive to negative and vice versa. This feature is used to reduce the build up of deposits on the surface of the electrodes in the electrolyser cells. This feature will increase the mean time between acid cleaning and prolong the life of the titanium electrodes. The operator can choose to enable to disable the feature. Interval time between switching, in hours, can also be changed. During polarity switching the power to the electrolyser will be turned OFF and the electrolyser will be allowed to rest for a preset rest time, in minutes.
CHLORINE DOSING CONFIGURATION
Chlorine dosing configuration is a highly flexible feature that allows the operator to choose precisely how he/she wants to control chlorine dosing. The available options are:
1. Electrolyser Cell Dosing using ORP levels
2. Electrolyser Cell Dosing using FCL levels
3. Chlorine Pump Dosing using ORP levels (Chlorine Backup turned OFF)
4. Chlorine Pump Dosing using FCL levels (Chlorine Backup turned OFF)
This is a unique feature that allows the operator to change the dosing method during maintenance. For example, if the operator wants to carry out calibration on the ORP probe, he/she can switch the system to FCL probe control. However, during acid cleaning, all dosing will be stopped to prevent accidental dosing during acid cleaning.
TEMPERATURE PROTECTION
During normal operation of the electrolyser cells, the temperature of the brass connectors will increase gradually. High temperatures can be achieved when the electrolyser is operating at maximum capacity for long periods of time. Temperature sensors are mounted on the brass connectors to measure the temperature levels. When the measured temperature exceeds the maximum setpoint, chlorine dosing will be reduced by 50% for a preset time. This will allow the brass connectors to cool down. Operator can choose to enable or disable this feature in the Temperature menu.
OTHER FEATURES:
ACID CLEANING
This is a feature that provides a diluted acid wash for the electrodes in the electrolyser cells. All dosing will be stoped during acid cleaning. Operator can set the cleaning time in the Acid Cleaning menu. A switch on the touchscreen allows the operator to stop all dosing and start the acid cleaning pump, after opening and closing the respective valves. A step by step instruction will be displayed on the touchscreen to prompt the operator to open and close the correct valves for acid cleaning.
MANUAL OPERATION
Manual operation is used to dose acid or chlorine to the pool water on a preset time. Operator can set the time required for the acid dosing pump or electrolyser cells to operate. The pump and/or cells will operate at maximum capacity for the preset time.
TIMER OPERATION FOR ELECTRO CHLORINATORS
A set of 4 daily timers are provided for each day of the week. The operator can operate the electrolyser cells, should he/she choose to, in timer operation mode. Setpoint for percentage dosing can be made for each of the 4 daily timers.
SMPS DIAGNOSTICS
The Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) diagnostics menu allows the operator to view the current output from each of the SMPS to the electrolyser cells. The operator can also limit the maximum current output by changing setpoint. A calculated / expected current output will be displayed in this menu, and if the actual current output is below the expected output, an alarm message will be triggered.
MEMORY AND TRENDING
Data logging is provided via a Mocro SD memory chip that is inserted into the PLC. In the Memory menu, a switch allows the operator to enable or disable this feature. This feature also allows the operator to choose from a list of data that he/she would like to log, such as measured pH, FCL and ORP levels, equipment runtime, setpoints, etc. Graphical trend for pH, ORP and FCL values are provided for the operator to observe the changes in the water chemistry.
EQUIPMENT RUNTIME
Equipment runtime feature is provided to log the total runtime, in hours, of all equipment in the system, such as
1. Acid Dosing Pump
2. Acid Cleaning Pump
3. Salt Chlorinator
4. Chlorine Dosing or Backup Pump
This feature is useful to determine the time when equipment is due for maintenance.
PROBE CALIBRATION
Probe calibration can be easily carried out via the PLC touch screen for the following
1. pH Probe zero and span calibration
2. FCL span calibration only, zero calibration set by software
3. ORP span calibration only, zero calibration set by software
OPTIONS AND CUSTOMISATIONS
The following are some optional features
1. Remote monitoring via Dial-up modem, Local Area Network (LAN), ADSL and SMS
2. Control of Water Circulating Pumps
3. Control of Pool Lighting
4. Control of Solar Heating System
